Hyundai Lafesta Launch Details Price and Specifications

Hyundai has introduced its new premium sedan Lafesta at the Beijing Motor Show. Let’s say this model is still being sold in China only. Lafesta is an Italian word for “festival” and the style and some designs of Lafesta have been taken from Le Fil Rouge concept that demonstrates Hyundai’s new design language “Sensuous Sportiness”, which was introduced at the Geneva Motor Show 1 month ago. Lafesta is actually based on the Hyundai Elantra, but it has been given a different suspension set-up. Lafesta is a four-door sedan car, but its look is like a sports coupé and has a sleek roofline. In China, this car can be launched by the end of this year. On this car, Hyundai wants to target the youth of China.

“China is evolving quickly and so are Chinese people’s attitudes. They are more self-confident, positive and creative. The LAFESTA will help us reflect this shifting trend,” said Simon Loasby, the Director and Head of Hyundai China Design. “It’s a clear demonstration of how our newly announced design vision, ‘Sensuous Sportiness’ comes to life in Hyundai vehicles.”

Where Le Fil Rouge concept is a big and high-end model, Lafesta has a length of 4,660mm and wheelbase is 2,700mm, which is less than that of Hyundai’s Elantra and Sonata. The company will place Lafesta between these two cars in China. Hyundai has not revealed the power and torque figures of the Lafesta engine though speaking of power specifications, two engine options in Lafesta – a 1.4-liter turbo-petrol and a 1.6-liter turbo petrol engine will be given, both engines will be tuned for power from 130hp to 240hp. Both engines will be equipped with a 7-speed automatic transmission.

There is no information about whether Lafesta will be launched in India or not, but it might be a tough call for Hyundai to choose between the Verna and the Lafesta. Hyundai Lafesta will be competing with Toyota Yaris. The price of Yaris range in India ranges from Rs 875,000 to Rs. 407,000 (ex-showroom). The company is launching this car to target upper-middle-class people whose age is 35-40 years.
