A few months ago, The French carmaker Renault was said that the company will launch its electric car based on the Kwid hatchback, only in China but now the company has announced that it will present this car in India as well. According to media reports, Renault has joined hands with Rico Auto Industries Ltd, a Gurugram based two-wheeler and four-wheeler parts manufacturing company to prepare electric cars in India. The company’s electric cars will be set up in Renault’s Chennai-based plant in India. The company has completed all its necessary tasks for this. In India, the demand for Kwid is very high and in such a way, it can prove to be better for the company to cast electric based on Kwid.
Carlos Ghosn, CEO and Chairman of Renault said that Once the Kwid Electric works in China, there’s no reason you’re not going to export the car to India, to Brazil, to the Middle East. It is also said that Rico Auto Industries will take the help of preparing parts of electric cars and it will produce parts of electric cars, which will make the Renault Kwid Electric. Under the make-in-India scheme, the cost of Renault Kwid Electric will also be lower. However, there is no time-frame that has been indicated for the Kwid Electric’s launch in India. We expect it to be here by 2022, by which there will be many other electric cars and electric vehicle charging infrastructure on Indian roads.
Details about the Kwid Electric’s battery range and performance have not yet been revealed. The car is expected to go at least about 200 kilometres per charge as this is something essential for most big cities of the world. The Renault Kwid Electric will compete with Mahindra’s hatchback E2O Plus from the day of launch. The Mahindra E2O Plus has been priced at Rs. 7.57 lakhs (Delhi ex-showroom).
