Japanese car manufacturer Toyota is set to launch mid-sized sedan Yaris in India on May 18, 2018. It was first displayed in India at the 2018 Auto Expo held in February. The bookings for new Yaris is expected to open by the end of April. Toyota has already started the promotional campaign for the new Yaris and also released a video highlighting the class-leading features of the sedan.
The new Yaris only gets a single petrol engine in India. The 1.5-liter four-cylinder Dual VVT-i engine which delivers a power of 108hp will be mated to either seven-speed continuously variable transmission (CVT) or six-speed manual transmission. The CVT variants will get paddle shifters. The company has not made any announcement about the production of diesel variant but it is expected to launch a hybrid variant later.
The new Yaris is featured with a powered driver’s seat, front parking sensors, a gesture control for the touchscreen infotainment system, steering-mounted audio controls, a tyre pressure-monitoring system, 60:40 split rear seats with adjustable three-neck restraints and armrest with cup holders, vibration control glass for windshield and door and roof-mounted rear air-con with ambient lighting. The high end variant is expected to get all-wheel disc brakes, seven airbags (including a driver’s knee airbag), Hill-Start Assist, ABS, EBD and ESP. Toyota Yaris looks attractive by its projector headlamps with LED guide and daytime running lamps, rear LED combi-lamp, bold and wide front grille and a shark-fin antenna on the exterior. Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and Honda City will be the rivals for Toyota Yaris in Indian market. Toyota Yaris is expected to be priced between Rs 8.4 and 13.5 lakh.
